More women are aspiring to own their business than men, our survey for cloud accounting provider, Free Agent has found. In fact, 56% of women hope to become their own boss compared to 52% of men. 11% of women even plan to set up their own business in the next 12 months.
The most common factor behind this dream was the hunt for a better work/life balance (52%). Other reasons included wanting to choose what work they do, earning more money, following their passion and having a greater sense of achievement. For women, the improvement in work/life balance was the key motivator, whereas men were more driven by the desire for a greater income.
The survey of 1,000 working people also identified a trend for ‘youngpreneurs’; a staggering 67% of 18-24-year-olds expressed an ambition of becoming their own boss. This was the highest percentage across all age division, with the number decreasing as the ages increased. 25-34-year-olds had the second highest number of aspiring entrepreneurs at 66%, followed by 35-44-year-olds in third with 58%.
