In light of the Government’s proposals to introduce a tax on sugary drinks, ITV commissioned OnePoll to conduct a survey in to the public’s reaction to the proposal.

The survey of 2,000 18-50 year olds found that almost 50% of people agree with the tax on fizzy drinks. Over three-quarters of those who agreed with the tax said they would be happy with a 10% to 20% surcharge so long as the money raised went to support schemes that would improve children’s health.

The research was featured in ITV’s documentary XXL Britain on Thursday 22nd October 2015 which looked at levels of sugar in our diet and the implications it can have on our health. The show also looked at the sugar tax proposals and where the money it raised would go.
