The end of the summer holidays is approaching and with it comes a whole host of worries for parents.

Our survey for Action for Children Scotland has revealed that bullying is the top concern with 1 in 5 parents worried about the issue when their child returns to school. 10% stated that their child’s health and well-being was their biggest concern.

The survey of 1,000 parents aged 5 to 16 also asked participants about the factors that would make the biggest difference to pupils’ lives. Almost 16% stated that one-to-one support would make the biggest difference, while 18% said it would be peer mentoring. Just over 19% believe that extracurricular or sports clubs would make the biggest difference to their children’s school experience.

Action for Children Scotland stated that results of the survey indicated the need for parents to talk to their children regularly, monitor their use of social media and have more family time as this is where children are more likely to open up about their problems.

The survey achieved widespread media coverage, including The Express, Capital FM Scotland, STV.TV as well as a range of regional Scottish news sites such as Glasgow Live, The Buchan Observer, The Aberdeen Evening Express, and Clydebank Post.  The survey was also featured in articles in the Scottish Daily Express, The Scotsman and The Press and Journal.
