Don’t you hate it when all your friends are in a relationship and you’re not? There are two choices available to you, stay home alone or you third-wheel, and who wants to do that? Well Meet Third Wheel Kevin, Deliveroo’s latest campaign for targetted at this “tragic” social group….
Just kidding, of course. Obviously, not all singletons are lonely and sat staring into a solitary abyss on Valentine’s day. In fact, our research accompanying the campaign found that 1 in 4 adults would rather spend Valentine’s day with their friends over their significant other.
The survey of 2,000 UK adults revealed that 54% would be happy to ‘third wheel’ on Valentine’s Day. What’s more 37% of couples said they would actually quite enjoy having a third person at the dinner table.
But what if you could ditch your boring old friends and third wheel a celebrity couple? Who would you choose? The Beckhams were the most popular choice, closely followed by Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher and the Middletons.
In fact, the celebrity world is full of its third wheels. Sinitta was named as the nation’s favourite, constantly third wheeling Simon Cowell and his wife Laura. The Cambridge’s third wheel, Prince Harry and Ron and Hermione’s hanger-on, boy wizzard Harry Potter came second and third respectively.
As a result of the research, Deliveroo launched a special ‘third wheel service’ offering food bundles for 3 for a limited time during February so that you don’t have to be the ‘Sinitta’ of your friends. The campaign achieved widespread international coverage landing on This is Insider, Female First, Her.ie and a host of other online lifestyle publications.
