34% of British people would choose an electric bike over public transport, our latest survey for cycle component manufacturer, Shimano has revealed.
Reasons contributing to the selection of the electric bike include speed, the need for less physical effort compared to push bikes and more hygienic, compared to the manual equivalent, as less physical effort means less sweat and less need to change once at work.
Despite these findings, though, commuters did appear hesitant about the switch to an e-bike, with comfort and safety of trains, buses, and tubes being the biggest sticking point.
Respondents believe that the switch to e-bikes would be aided by the government subsidising the purchase of e-bikes.
The survey of 1,000 people in the UK, was featured on a range of specialist bike sites including Bike Biz, Pedelecs and Get Britain Cycling.
